the fig house at middleton lodge.
The Fig House at Middleton Lodge in North Yorkshire has long been on my bucket list as a wedding videographer, and my goodness, was I utterly SPOILT by Maisie + Jimmy when I finally got my hands on this most gorgeous countryside venue in May 2025!
A wedding day that will live rent free in my head forever
My day started in the idyllic and beautifully quaint cottages on the vast grounds of the Middleton Lodge estate where a visibly nervous Maisie was having the final touches made to her understated yet elegant bridal look by Daniella Make Up + Hair as her doting bridesmaids and mum excitedly busied themselves in the background. However, it was when Nat of Studio Fever Few appeared through the door with the most exquisite collection of meadowy pastel bouquets that I realised just how beautiful my first Middleton Lodge wedding was going to be.
After taking the short drive to St Michael + All Angels church (in neighbouring Middleton Tyas) chauffeured by her ever-proud father in a classic Mercedes, Maisie prepared to walk down the aisle in a beautifully simplistic Jessica Bennett gown with a show-stopping detachable bow. Following a traditional ceremony, confetti and cheers, the newlyweds made their way back to the Fig House - tins cans now trailing behind their wedding car - for celebratory drinks in the venue’s walled garden and a vinyl DJ spinning classic remixes of late 80s and early 90s soul and RnB – the main inspiration behind the song I chose for their film edit!
The Fig House was in full bloom, as you would expect from a May wedding day, so Nell from Nell Mallia Photography and I were in paradise as we wandered the grounds for Maisie + Jimmy’s couple shoot, a perfect chance to take a breather from the excitement of the day’s events, and allowing us to capture the natural interactions between this long-standing pair with minimal direction needed.
Guests then settled in for a series of emotional speeches and a three-course dinner, surrounded by an extensive array of fluffy florals which brought all the colours of the late spring English country garden from the outside in – and honestly, I will dine out on this magnificent set-up for pretty much the rest of my life!
As evening descended, Maisie and Jimmy cut their intricately decorated long table cake by one of my favourites, Where The Ribbon Ends, before opening the dancefloor with a live version of Leon Bridges’ ‘Beyond’ performed by Club Mojo Band.
A modern wedding film with fashion and flowers at the forefront
When I started out in wedding videography back in 2017, I could never have dreamed that my films would resonate with a couple who are as cool, sophisticated and considered as Maisie and Jimmy. Whilst I wanted their wedding film edit to reflect their laid-back love, deep rooted in tiny nuances of affection rather than grand gestures, it goes without saying that the styling, florals and fashion needed to have a major moment. Whilst my job as a wedding videographer is very much about creating a time capsule of the most special day, I make sure I live in the moment too by watching your dreams come true, and Maisie’s tearful reaction to her wedding flowers during her bridal preparations was a clear indication that they needed to have a starring role in their wedding film – and I was more than happy to oblige! I am still pinching myself that me and my little camera were trusted to capture this fashion-forward celebration, sprinkled with all the traditional touches of an English summer wedding that will forever make my heart skip a beat.
